Applying for a Reception place

All applications to Winsley School must be sent to the LEA. We encourage you to visit the school prior to applying. A school place is available for children from the September following their fourth birthday.

We operate a carefully planned induction scheme for children entering the Reception class. In order to make the transition to "Big School" as smooth as possible, the children attend for mornings only for the first couple of weeks of September, adding lunchtimes in the third week. This is in line with all the other primary schools in the area.

Research and experience has shown that this pattern gives the very best start to children at this important time of transition.

We would love to show you around our school! Please contact the school office to make an appointment.

We are happy for you to phone us with any queries about our school in your quest to find the right school for your child. Whether you are looking for a place for a child mid-way through an academic year, or a child needing a place in a year group other than Reception, we can let you know what the likelihood of getting a place might be. Wiltshire Council, however, is responsible for all admissions and you will need to deal with them over the admissions process.

The deadline for applications for a Reception place in September is usually around the middle of the January of the same year. Please consult www.wiltshire.gov.uk/schoolseducationandlearning for details.

All applications should be made through Wiltshire Council, School Admissions Team, County Hall, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge, Wiltshire BA14 8JN.

Please apply online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk or telephone 01225 713010 for more information and to request an application form.
