School Information

Our village

Winsley is a friendly village between the World Heritage City of Bath and the historic market town of Bradford on Avon. We have a thriving C of E Church and Methodist Chapel, a charming pub - the Seven Stars - and many village societies and groups, such as cricket club, film club, the Social Club, and a youth club.

Our school

Our school moved to its present site in 1972 from the old Victorian school building which had become too small for purpose. It is conveniently situated in the new part of the village, close to the shop, the health centre, Hartley Farm shop and cafe, and bus stops. Next door is Acorns Pre-School with whom we share a successful Rising Fives programme.

We are fortunate to have beautiful grounds: a large playing field, a wildlife area with enclosed pond, den-building area, outside classroom, separate Early Years and Key Stage 1 play areas, and a hard-surfaced ball court.

The main building and grounds of our school are fully accessible by wheelchair and we have a fully accessible toilet.

Indoor facilities boast a laptop trolley, children's cookery facilities, dedicated music room, bright and colourful reference library and an on-site kitchen where lunches are cooked fresh to order each day.

As of March 2018 we have 170 children on roll. We welcome applications from all ages - some year groups are more heavily subscribed than others. Phone Wiltshire Council to talk to them about admissions, and phone us to make an appointment to look around our lovely school.

Our designated area is the village of Winsley and surrounding villages and hamlets of Conkwell, Haugh, Ashley, Murhill, Turleigh and Limpley Stoke. However, we also have pupils who live in Bradford on Avon and as far afield as Trowbridge.

We are fortunate in having good relationships with an excellent preschool and very highly regarded local secondary school.

Next door to our school is Winsley Acorns Preschool. Many of the children who attend Acorns move on to Winsley School when they reach Reception age. We run Rising Fives sessions together with Acorns to help familiarise the children with our school in the summer term before they join us.

You can find out more about Winsley Acorns by going to:

Secondary school

After Year 6, most of the children transfer to St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon. We have close links with St Laurence and take part in their Year 6/7 transition programme which includes taster days and visits from the school's Year 6/7 Transition Co-ordinator.
