Our Curriculum Offer is currently being developed in line with our action plan below. This new two year cycle curriculum offer takes into consideration our mixed year groups which can change each year.

The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values. Therefore it is essential that we have a clear and accurate picture of each learner and their specific needs, to ensure that our curriculum is accessible to all.

We provide enhancement opportunities to engage learners, using what the locality has to offer, to develop our sense of our place in the world. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge.

Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and our approach focuses on the following key areas of research:

Development of memory – Learning is most effective with spaced repetition, understanding of concepts and reliance on long-term, rather than short-term memories, to increase both storage and retrieval strength.

Our foundation subjects are taught using a spiral curriculum model, where key concepts, skills and knowledge are revisited within school years and across both key stages.

Development of vocabulary/Oracy skills – We want our pupils to possess the knowledge and skills to feel confident expressing an opinion and ask questions.

Key vocabulary for each topic.

Language builder, through frequent reading in all subjects.

Pre-teaching concepts in numeracy.

Talk for Writing used in literacy.

Development of deeper level thinking leading to sustained mastery – sustained and maintained challenge in learning. Pupils to develop greater understanding of a topic.

We want to involve pupils in thinking deeply and to consider a topic by using a question as the starting point.
